Laurie Chipman is licking stamps (figuratively speaking, of course – she knows perfectly well they’re peel-and-stick) and mailing out announcements for the coolest ride in the city. Mark your calendars and begin visualizing nicer weather!

I’ve been invited back to take photos again this year, though I’m really torn – wanting to ride.. Maybe I can find a good, corrosive-sweat-resistant underwater camera case…

The title is a cynical (and upon reflection, embarrassing) attempt at snagging the eye of a curator. But if you ARE a curator and it worked – please let me know…

Arts District Parking Garage

This is the coolest new parking structure in the city. And as if beautiful sculpture and a green roof weren’t enough, it ALSO boasts its very own performing arts center! Architecture by Moody Nolan, artwork by Mags Harries + Lajos Heder.

Scruggs Hall

This Sherman D. Scruggs Residence Hall designed by Moody Nolan is at Lincoln University, and is not to be confused with the Scruggs University Center, also on campus – so you’ve got to be specific when asking for directions. And what a gorgeous school – giant, lush, green rolling hills as far as you can see… Jefferson City in general and Lincoln University in particular are places the rest of us in Missouri ought to be more familiar with.

Slipped in under the wire to get some photos of Helix Architecture‘s new entry plaza at Avila University, before the leaves were completely gone. Other photos are of SMG’s office building and of the trellis at RW Company‘s building now the vines have matured a little.

Christopher S. Bond Federal Courthouse

Designed by Kallmann McKinnell & Wood and SFS Architecture, Jefferson City’s new courthouse sits next to the abandoned State Penitentiary complex and within sight of the State Capitol building. This is a grand and beautifully finished building that is all by itself reason to visit Jeff City. Even if you don’t go to the Zesto Drive-In while you’re there.

UMB Scout Office Interiors

In downtown, KC – designed by SFS Architecture. This a gorgeous place, and if the building’s guards weren’t so “Homeland Security”, I’d sneak in and occupy one of the empty offices. Just playing around! Call off the cruise missiles…
